The Primrose Cafe is available to cater for your event, big or small. We cater for weddings, product launches, balls and banquets or just for private gatherings at home.

Canapes, buffets, sit-down meals are all covered and we can provide anything from just the food to a fully-staffed function.

We offer a bespoke service and will discuss your requirements before tailoring a menu to suit. You can be sure that everything is done with the same attention to detail as at the Primrose, with the same level of care given to sourcing our ingredients and preparing them for you. All work is undertaken by our own staff who we know and trust – we never hire in agency workers.

The Costs

As all our work is bespoke, the prices can vary, but to give you an idea:

 

 

Canapes:

 

These bite-sized pieces cost from £1.20 each and as a rule of thumb you would need 5 items per person per hour of your function – please note, though, that canapes should not be considered as a substitute for a full meal. They are ideal for drinks parties and receptions where people are standing and you don’t want the hassle of crockery and cutlery. Minimum order 50 pieces.

Wild mushroom and fresh thyme

Wild mushroom and tarragon

Tomato, pesto and anchovy

 

Sliders – all  the rage in the trendiest circles, these are mini-burgers and come in a two-bite size: all £1.75

Pork and chorizo with Guindilla chilli

Spicy lamb with feta and red onion marmalade

Classic beef with melted Hereford Hop cheese

Mushroom burger with emmental and rocket

 

Other:

Baked Jersey royal with creme fraiche and caviar £1.50

Scallop in the shell with tomato, capers and basil £2.25

 

 

Buffets

 

 

Ideal for weddings and parties – the food is presented in a stunning visual display in a central location for guests either to help themselves or to be served by our staff. Three courses from £20 per head (food cost only – you would need to consider crockery and cutlery and linen if required, all of which we can hire on your behalf if necessary). Please note, the price includes VAT but this can be avoided – ask for details.

Terrine of roasted vegetables with tomato salsa

Salad of marinated Cornish seafood with extra virgin olive oil + £1.00/head

 

MAIN COURSES

 

*Confit of barbary duck with braised red cabbage

Vegetable pisto pie with toasted sesame seeds

*Free-range chicken with tarragon and leeks

Fennel and courgette “osso bucco”

Rosemary-stuffed leg of lamb with puy lentils

*Slow-roast shoulder of pork “Southern-style” with barbecue sauce

*Smoked haddock and parmesan gratin

Butternut squash, spinach and gorgonzola strudel

*Spicy sausage and cannellini bean casserole

*Fish and smoked fish pie with a mashed potato top

*Moroccan-style vegetable tagine with jewelled couscous and preserved

lemon

Rare roast sirloin of Angus beef with horseradish mayonnaise + £1.50/head

Salmon en croute with spinach and tarragon

Treacle-glazed ham with mustard mayonnaise

 

Items with an asterisk would be served hot.

 

The price includes bread and butter with the starter and a selection of salads and

hot new potatoes with the main course

 

DESSERTS

 

Pear and frangipane tart

Caramelised white chocolate mousse with dark chocolate shavings

Raspberry and ratafia trifle

Rose-petal pavlova with berries and berry coulis

Double chocolate brownie with crème fraiche

New York Cheesecake with fresh berries

Chocolate fudge cake

Tarte tatin (caramelized upside-down apple tart )

Selection of home-made ices and sorbets presented in an ice bowl (+ £1.50 per head)

 

Full Service Meals

 

 

For a more formal function, a proper sit-down meal is the only way to go. We can cater for up to 150 people at any venue of your choice. This is the most expensive option because of the equipment and staff needed to run it. Food costs for three courses start at £20 per head including VAT.

*Gnocchi with wild mushrooms, shaved pecorino and truffle oil

*Cornish crabmeat on toast with lime and chilli, served with hot crab bisque

*Crispy duck confit with pearl barley and pickled cherries

*Seared scallops with black pudding and bubble and squeak (supp. £2.00)

Roast guinea-fowl breast, herb stuffing, Pardina lentils with sherry

Pan-fried pork fillet in serrano ham with butter beans and chorizo

Salmon fillet in butter puff pastry with spinach and tarragon

Roast rabbit leg stuffed with rabbit forcemeat and wrapped in parma ham, mash

and white wine sauce with rabbit confit and peas

Roast pheasant, braised red cabbage, fondant potato

Saddle of lamb, dauphinoise potatoes, chestnuts and Madeira gravy (supp. £2.00)

Fillet of beef Wellington, wild mushrooms and Burgundy, horseradish sauce

The price includes Hobbs House bread and butter with the starter and a jardinière

of vegetables with the main course

In-House Catering

 

We are happy to cater for your function on our own premises – we have a large upstairs area opening onto a private terrace which can cater for up to 60 buffet-style and up to 40 for a sit-down meal. This can often work out cheaper than an outside event as all the equipment is on-site.
